Can I put a v12 engine in a old car?

Like a 1967 mustang if not what muscle cars can I put it in

If you have the budget, time and inclination, you can put just about any motor into anything. In some cases this may mean cutting and welding the firewall further back to make room for the larger engine. And as already stated, you should first figure out where you are going to get a v12 from, there are no US made cars with v12 nor have there been in the muscle car era.

So then what you are asking is can you put a foreign Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW or Mercedes V12 motor into an American Muscle Car. And as you ask this, I have to point out that the Italians actually went with the opposite idea, to put a Mustang or Corvette motor into an Italian made sports car; several examples including the Iso Griffo, Detomaso Mangusta and the Pantera. Italian made sports cars equipped with American V8 power because our V8s typically have better low to midrange torque than the more sophisticated and peaky Italian V12s.

So anyway, you want to do the opposite of what these guys were doing, and take a high strung peaky italian V12 that only works well at high revs and put it into a mustang to drive around town, probably with an automatic transmission that will keep the revs low and it never gets into the proper RPM band. I wish you much luck and further thought on this matter.

The most respectful suggestion I might offer is that you could put a Dodge V10 into a classic Dodge muscle car

Sure. Many old vehicles had huge engine compartments, due to having large cubic-inch, big block engines. Now, many cars have smaller engine compartments due to having V6's and inline 4's. Finding a V12 and buying it will be much more difficult and expensive than finding a V8, but if you have the capability, then it's possible. I personally think you would be much better off finding a V8 and rebuilding it with higher performance parts. It would be lighter, most likely be more streetable (depending on how hardcore you build it), and the sound would be more fitting for an old American muscle car. Also, if you would ever have to rebuild the V12, it would cost you an arm and a leg.

HI, you would run into problems with not enough room.. a V12 is wide and long.. you may be able to get one in if you put on a Mustang II suspension and move the radiator in front of the core support and added a pusher fan..

Good luck

Seems to me that other than Benz, BMW, Aston-Martin, Ferrari and other super-lux makes, about the only V12 engine that might be available would be an old Jag - - - - - and people put Chevy engines in those because they're crap.

A Moustang has no frame behind the forward edge of the front doors. Get ahold of Jay Leno. He has a roadster with a V-12 - 1,710 cubic inch Allison Aircraft Engine.

Why don't you put a V-64 in it? Or maybe a V-128?

Where would you even source a V12?

How about we say V8, and then worry about speculation.

I can stuff a 50,000 # lift jet freakin' engine in a pick-up truck, IF you have the time & the $$$...

Why would you do that to a 67 Mustang.....

Why don't you put a V-64 in it?

I would put it in a pre 1940 roadster.

What about two sixes? One for the left wheel and one for the right.

Absolutely. You could put in a V16 if your budget is big enough.
