Earth is a living, conscious being which humankind has made ill. Earth will eliminate large numbers of humans in order to heal itself. The Biblical promise of 1000 years of peace will come after a cleansing. Earth never has and never will have any use for the human species.
As others have said, "space" is not the big problem. Water, climate, energy, food...and the way we are rapidly extinguishing other species, or effectively driving them to near-extinction while we preserve only small populations of them in zoos or in wildlife refuges.
To be a friend of the animal kingdom as a whole, one would have to wish for war, famine, and disease to decimate mankind.

Probably not. We will "run out" of clean water or adequate food supply or an infectious agent will appear or someone will create a "super bug" that gets out of the lab or is actually used by an insane military leader or a insane terrorist. Either that or someone will start an nuclear war.
