Which field of engineering is most like medicine?

Biomedical engineering. I can't think of what chemical engineering would have to do with medicine except that it might be utilized in vaccine or drug production. If you still like engineering I would stick with that major. It will be a lot easier to get a job if you change your mind about medicine or don't get into medical school.

Most definitely chemical engineering, then electrical. I am an EE with an aptitude toward chemistry and understanding of neurology. I find there to be a strong correlation in the way humans are wired and the basics physics of electricity.

Of course none of these fields can replace a medical degree since there are so many detailed sub-fields in medicine. But I believe medical and engineering minds think alike.

I'd suggest sticking with Electrical Engineering because it would compliment your training in neuroscience. For example:

1. By the time you would actually be practicing, electrical implants to do things like give vision to the blind will be closer to reality.

2. Ways to monitor brain function relate to EE.

3. If you want to understand/model brain function, EE would seem the best of the standard engineering degrees.

If you do not want to be an engineer then why are you thinking of switching with that field? You are only one semester in, if you already dislike it you need to switch majors completely.

I attend the University of North Dakota and just finished my first semester. I am classified as an Electrical Engineering Major with a Biomedical Focus, but I have not taken any courses toward it. I am just doing generals. To be blunt I don't want to be an engineer. I want to be a Neurosurgeon, which means medical school.

Since I've already set myself up to study engineering with higher level Math and Science classes than required for any other major, I'm wondering if there is another field of engineering that will prepare me for medical school?Maybe Chemical Engineering?
