Timing chain?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
If my timing chain had broke while I was starting that car would all I need to buy for repair is the chin itself or would I have to by numerous other parts and would the car run normal

It depends on if the engine is the interference type or not. If not there wouldn't be any internal damage. If it was the pistons likely collided with the valves - major damage.

Most vehicles with timing chains are not interference engines. Usually, you can just retime the engine and put a new chain on. A few will send chaffe throughout the engine, so that needs to be cleaned out.

Tow the car to a competent mechanic. They will give you the answers.

broke timing belt most likely leads to bent valves and or damaged pistons.

Google the engine type and see if it is a interference engine or not. The type of car doesn't matter.

Who is a "Dazaray?" Must be a female. No reference to a year, brand, model nor miles as to this vehicle. Is this an academic discussion as if when ever in the future something like this happened or did it happened already? I see not punctuation mark at the end of the sentence. This is pure texting error from a teen who has copied this error from the other ignorant teens who have copied this error from others, and so on. You wrote "chin" which I must suspect is supposed to be "chain" but was not corrected before posting. I detect a teen who has no idea of what a timing chain is, what is the function and where it is located as, she, in her state of delusion, wishes to "buy" a chain and or "numerous other parts." Ms. Dazaray, are you a mechanic? What makes you believe this "timing chain" is broken? Are you a mechanic qualified to do engine repairs? This mysterious posting from a teenager who has not spoken with any adults or mechanics as to this car is tough to handle. A timing chain is not like a chain, chain. The word "timing" is integral to the engine. It is not visible and no one but a mechanic can determine if this vital engine part is broken. A broken timing chain means the engine is ruined, for the most part. There is nothing you can do except to contact a mechanic. That being said, the fan belt, that rubberized belt that is moved by the rotation of the engine's crankshaft and powers the alternator, water pump, AC compressor, power brakes and power steering, is often confused by mechanically challenged teens as the "timing chain." No one knows. Ms. all you have to do is to have the car towed to a mechanic, an auto repair shop. That is all. Expect, at worse, a new engine. At best, a broken serpentine belt. A mechanic shall inform you. You do not buy auto parts.

PMark is correct, you need to speak to a local qualified mechanic.
