My oil pan has a hoe in it . the car won't holdoil and has stop running. what should I expect to pay to repair this?

Not sure. Some oil pans cost $75 and some cost $450. Labor about $150-250. Call the parts department at a dealership and ask what an oil pan costs. Call the service department and ask for estimate. Maybe the local high school auto shop can install it for you? Or college auto repair class?

I'm more worried about "has stop running"! If you damaged the engine (crankshaft) by driving the car without oil, it will be a very expensive repair. Maybe install a used engine from an auto salvage yard?

Ford oil pans rust out very easily. Since you forgot to tell us the year make and model of your car, we can't give you a price for a new oil pan or the cost of replacing it. External glue and patches do not work. Look @ partstrain.com, autopartswarehouse.com, rockauto.com or the dealer of the car for an exact replacement.

Hole?

The sump can be repaired - steel is easy to weld, alloy less so but still doable by an expert. Otherwise get a good one from a scrap yard.

But if the engine was running without oil it could be badly damaged.

"the car won't holdoil and has stop running."

Your engine has likely seized from lack of oil to lubricate the moving parts, so the cost of the oil pan will be far and away your cheapest expense.

Try and imagine what would happen if you have metal pistons going up and down inside a metal cylinder bore at the rate of say 2,400 rpm, or 40 times PER SECOND, without oil for lubrication.

Can you imagine the heat that would generate, where the pistons would quickly turn red, or even white from the extreme heat caused by the friction?

When the metal starts to expand or even melt, the pistons can no longer move up and down. They seize.

Car mechanics offer FREE estimates. Did you know that? Do you know that different cars have different repair costs? Not all is the same for all as to repairs. But I am puzzled even more. You car has a "hoe?" And because of this "hoe" it will not "holdoil?" Where on the planet are you? Is this English?

Not a hoe surely? If it is a steel pan it should be easy and cheap to have a patch welded over the hole. If it is aluminium alloy it may mean a new pan.

open the pan and ask the hoe to get out

get a new oil-pan.
