Wiring of a plug. No earth?

Your amplifier is known in the UK as 'Double insulated' it requires no ground, or earth as we say in the UK. DO NOT run an earth wire from the plug to the amplifier as someone has suggested, this will compromise the double insulation classification. Just fit a 13A UK type plug with the correct fuse, probably 3A and ignore the earth connection, polarity is not important as the original plug probably had no polarity sense, ie could be plugged in either way around.

The stereo is double insulated and does not require an earth

Connect the active and neutral wires to the active and neutral pins of the 3 pin plug and leave the earth unconnected, or use a 2 pin plug

240 is fine for the UK

Use a 2 pin UK plug only. Connect the two wires to the appropriate pins.

From what I can see, the 2 pin plugs have a plastic pin (no connection) for the ground, which helps in orientation.

Obtain one more same length of wire as the cable. Add this wire to the existed cable as earth ground wire. Connect this wire from the plug earth ground larger pin. Other end of this wire connect to the metal case from amplifier.

Hello,

I have an old Yamaha a-420 stereo amplifier, and I need to change the plug it has.

On the back of the case it says it will take 240V so this should be fine for the UK right?

It has a foreign plug on it though (not sure which, i've looked online but can't find one like it). Normally I would need to ask about just wiring a plug, but the cable has two wires, Neutral and Live - The plug has three pins.

What do I do with regards to the earth?
