Hello

There is no clutch that you operate, you only have Brake and Accelerator pedals.

Your Gear Selector goes from the front

Park

Reverse

Neutral

Drive

Some are a little different.

Normally there is lock (Mine is a lift collar under the selector knob)

You operate this to go from P to R and maybe to N and N to R and to P

You will normally Start the car, Put foot on Brake and select D or R as required.

Automatics always start in 1st when D is selected and change up and down the gear box at a given RPM.(Mine does so at 2,500 RPM).

As I have shown 4 numbers this normally shows a 5 Forward speed Gear box as 5th is now D

If you select one of the numbers you are telling the car not to go above that gear. For example on a steep hill the car may keep changing Up and Down, Wait until it changes Down then select 4 and the car will stay in 4 until you select D again.

Some have a Sport Mode button "S" (Again mine is on top of the gear selector) This tells the car to change at (My car) 4,500 RPM so if you used this with selecting 4 it would accelerate up to 4,500 RPM.

However this is only used if required as it uses more petrol.

Most will have a Snow Mode button (Mine is a Snow Flake) and is located at the base of the gear selector on the central console). This tells the car to start in driving in 2 nd gear for show and slippery conditions. Most turn off again automatically when they change up to 3rd but check owners manual

From Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse is done maually. The forward gears change automatically.

There is no clutch the driver uses.

yes an automatic transmission has a clutch just like a manual. Yep....

No. In the 1950's Chrysler had a strange semi-automatic, and VW had an automatic stick shift. Now... All automatics are fully automatic. Just stick it in drive, and go.

Uhh No. Other than moving the gearshift into the drive position, no

All motor-cycles have clutches that run in oil.
