Why are microwaves bad for you?

I wanted to know why the type of wave microwaves are bad for you, but cannot find it anywhere. (Not the kind you cook food in though)

Theyre not bad for you unless the intensity is high enough to produce, in your tissue, the heating you get in microwave cookers. Then you can get burned quite deep inside or if you like, literally cooked alive!

The microwaves are the same, whether they come from a communications tower, or a microwave oven.

Depending on their frequency, they can be tuned to make water molecules vibrate faster, hence warming up food.

Since the human body is about 70% water, the body tends to heat up too. The eye has an especially high percentage of water, and isn't protected by mineral dense material like bone, so it is more likely to heat up sooner, faster.

The metal grate in the door of the microwave oven, is designed to keep microwaves contained inside the oven. If the holes in the window grate were larger, you'd be cooking your eyes out.

Cell phones, wifi internet routers, etc, use microwaves as well, just millionths of the power that an oven uses.

Microwaves denatures proteins. It creates proteins that are not found in nature and may have an effect down the road in the changes it may make to are DNA. With the industrial diet that came about in the past 40 years, including microwave foods and many chemical cocktails we call food, the top killers and top common diseases and disorders that affect people of the West are almost entirely lifestyle related. When tobacco first came out, for a long time they said it was safe. I will not use a microwave. It's bad enough when I occasionally eat out, some of the food may be microwaved.

People, you are wrong - microwaves are NOT bad for you. Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic radiation as are light, television, radio, infrared, ultraviolet, and X-rays. They all are form of energy - X-rays, ultraviolet and gamma radiation are very high energy waves that can can damage cells, DNA and injure people with high enough exposure. But microwaves, like light, television and radio are very low energy waves - they can't damage cells or DNA. In fact, microwaves are lower in quantum energy than visible light and I doubt any of you is afraid of that. All microwaves can do is heat things and that doesn't take a great deal of energy. As to hurting people - the amount of microwave power required to do that is very high. What leaks from a microwave oven is so little that it is almost immeasurable. Even with the door off, the amount of microwave radiation drops according to the inverse square law - the amount of microwave power at 12' is 1/4 that at 6" from the open door. Also, it is not like a flame that will burn you instantaneously. I'm a scientist whose worked with microwaves for over 50 years - during that time I've placed my hand inside an industrial size microwave oven at a power 10 times that in a high power domestic microwave oven. My hand got warm, then warmer until it started to feel uncomfortable, so I pulled it out of the oven - NO injury whatsoever.

As to the comment that microwaves denature proteins - so does any form of cooking. That's the purpose of cooking meat for example - otherwise you couldn't chew it

I'm afraid your comments are based on myth and misunderstanding.

When microwave radiation impinges on any conductive material, it generates electrical currents in that material, which ultimately causes heating. That is how your microwave oven cooks food. Whether biological damage is caused to living tissue is really a question of the intensity of the microwave radiation. For example, when you are out in the sun or standing in front of a fire, you feel warmth from the relatively low intensity of microwave and infrared radiation from the sun or fireplace. (Infrared is electromagnetic radiation just as microwaves are, but at a much higher frequency). Other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as Ultra violet and X-rays damage tissue in other ways - such as upsetting the molecular structure of cell material. These forms are at much higher frequencies than infrared, and they behave more like particles than a wave.

Here is a link to an article published by Cornell University on safe electromagnetic radiation levels. Its a bit technical, but you can get a sense of what is going on.

if they are in a controlled situation they are safe they are just a very high frequency radio wave

Well there are many reasons but the main one is because the micro waves go into ur brain amd if that happens to much something cud go very wrong
