Coolant leak in jetta!?

You may also want to flush out the system. They have kits at auto parts stores which cost about $10 to $15. Wait until the engine is cooled down and check the hoses coming from the radiator to the engine. You can turn on the engine after completely cooled down and let it run for a bit. Then check the hoses again and see if they are wet or dry. It's most likely a cracked hose or maybe the radiator drain plug isn't closed completely.

No year-engine info.

If under the radiator you may have a cracked radiator, if it's under the motor it could be a heater hose O ring ect.

The only way to find a leak is to have the cooling system pressure tested, it could be a simple as a hose clamp.

You should totally keep driving it when the coolant light comes on.. It's a great way to crack a head, but don't worry, that's only an expensive fix....

Seriously, those lights and stuff are on a car for a reason!

Keep the radiator filled to the top when the engine is stone cold. The plastic coolant recovery reservoir should be filled 3/4 fill at the same time. If you are unable to find the leak and make repairs, a trusted private mechanic or dealer of the car will do a *cooling system pressure test which will find any external or internal leaks.

Ok I recently was gifted this car from my dad and it has some problems that we're trying to fix. On my way to school no coolant light came on but after I parked my car at school and got out I saw a puddle of coolant under the drivers side( nowhere by the coolant reservoir) as of now I'm just trying to see what could cause this until I get out of school. Last week the coolant light came on because it was low so I put distilled water in it and I never saw a leak or the light come on again.
