The exterior just isn't very shiny. It's a white 1997 Toyota RAV 4

buff and wax it first. That will only cost you about $150 or much less if you know how to do it yourself.

A repaint will cost you $5,000 if you want it done right. Sure you can take it to Maaco and get their 'spray paint special' for $999, but you will be doing more harm than good to the resale value.

Clean the outside (wash and wax), then go over with a clay bar to remove fine particles. make sure the surface is dry, use polishing compound to get the clear coat shine to return and remove oxidation. Use the right kind of. buffing pad for compounding and polishing, watch out for edges and rubber trim (i mask off trim). I like to wash the vehicle again and dry, wet sand any scratches in the surrounding 1/4 inch or so, apply a filler to even the surface and let it dry, sand until even (easy to use spot putty).

Apply primer over filled and sanded scratches, sand again, paint, sand (very lightly) then apply clear coat, make sure you give time for each layer to dry and to clean off sanding residue.. finally polish the repair and 1/4 inch surrounding area, wash, then wax and it'll look like a new paint job eventually

. you only should fill deep scratches and rock chips.

I think it would be best to take it up with a auto detailer in your area. He will be able to at least see the car, we can't.

Buff a section of the hood or the trunk to see what shape the paint is in.

Let it go
