How many solar cells required to make 100 watts solar panel?

CASE1: each solar cell of 2watts, 0.5V, how many cells required to make 100 watts solar panel?

100 watts / 2 watts = 50, so you need 50 cells

case 2 similar.

Voltage depends on how you connect them. If you take 24 "case2" cells, you can connect them in many ways, but they all should provide 100 watts. Each cell provides 4/0.5 = 8 amps

1. all in parallel, for 0.5 volts 192 amps

2. two in series, 12 sets in parallel, for 1.0 volts 96 amps

(others)

3. 24 in series, 12 volts 8 amps.

BUT a 12 volt battery takes about 15 volts to charge, so you need more cells. If you take 30 "case2" cells you will get 15 volts 8 amps.

There are several problems that this solution has. First of all, solar cells have a high internal resistance. Is the rating actually 0.5 volts at 8 amps? both at the same time. I doubt it.

And you need a charge controller to apply the proper voltage and currents and time to charge the battery.

The typical panel intended to charge a 12V lead-acid battery is 36 cells. You could go with either case 1 or case 2, but use 36 cells in series.

If you have the best sealed lead acid battery, you should only be taking 50% of the capacity each day. Less is better. 50% * 150 AH * 12V = 900 watt-hours. That is too much for a 100-watt fixed panel, even in the best location on earth. However, if you go with 35 x 4W cells, you will have 144W - marginally enough if you are in the best location (sunny and cold). In an area that gets heat, you might need to go with 180W of panel.

There is a step-by-step video guide online right now that can show you how to reduce your power bill by making your own solar panels.

Take a look at it: http://tinyurl.com/Earth4EnergyRew

Why pay thousands of dollars for solar energy ($27,000 average cost) when you can build your own solar panel system for just a fraction of the retail cost. You can build a single solar panel or you can build an entire array of panels to power your whole house.

Some people are saving 50% on their power bill, some people are reducing their bill to nothing. But what’s most impressive is that just by following these instructions some are even making the power company pay them!

NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO SET UP SINCE BOTH ARE 100W.

12.5V CANNOT CHARGE 12V CAR BATTERY BECAUSE ITS PEAK VOLTAGE IS 14V.

12.5V CAN CHARGE 9 PIECES NiMH cells ( 1.35V peak voltage for each cell ).

I am beginner for solar panel making, I am planing to make home made 100watt solar panel.

I have recd quotations from various supplier.

CASE1: each solar cell of 2watts, 0.5V, how many cells required to make 100 watts solar panel?

CASE2: each solar cell of 4watts, 0.5V, how many cells required to make 100 watts solar panel?

as per my understand CASE1, answer might 50cells required where as case2 requires 25cells.

which is better option to charge 12 Volts battery?

Please some one help me in this regard.

Thanks and Best regards,
