My car's leaking oil what do i do?

It could be a loose oil filter. If you never leaked oil before and the oil started after the oil change. Your best to go back to the oil change shop and have them look at the oil filter and also examine the oil drain plug as that is another possibility. Otherwise you definetely need to have it diagnosed. It is usually minor repair but it could be otherwise too ! The engine does need oil and it would be wise also monitor it daily if the leak is severe enough until it gets repaired. If its not a severe leak, a bottle of rear main stop leak may work to reduce the leak somewhat by fattening up most of the seals and gaskets around the engine.

When your motor is leaking oil you find out where the oil is coming from...you don't pay for a "smog check"! You motor isn't "leaking: smog! Immediately have the place that changed the oil check to see the oil drain plug is tight and that there isn't an old gasket stuck between the new oil filter and the motor flange where the filter screws on. if that's Ok ask the mechanic where the oil leak is coming from. Pretty darn simple to check out oil leaks.

You can either look for the leak yourself,or take it to a shop. You say it has a smell like oil, that usually means it is leaking onto a hot surface, topside of the engine or exhaust manifold. Oil leaks from the pan usually just make a mess on your drive or garage floor. Lift the hood and take a light and check the obvious suspects first, rocker arm covers, PCV, fill lid etc.

Obviously, your diagnosis is incomplete at this point, you need to find if the oil sender is the leak, or your previous work.

If you call yourself cheap, then you already know, buy the tools and the books for your car.

Study up. make trips to see what you can buy yourself to remedy the problem, and research can be done by you for free on the internet, or at the public library.

If you are going to be a mechanic???

You have an expensive , long, experience gathering road- a -hoe.

You dont even know the questions to ask till you identify the car and its systems.

Then, you have need of materials for safe lifting, light, eye protection, etc.

You-tube has plenty of free educational videos for you to take with a grain of salt.

Good luck.

NAPA should be able to help.

if it just started the leak you probably changed the oil your self and of course you where to cheap to by a funnel and spilled the oil on to your engine where it puddled on your manifold gasket .when it says " service your engine" that is whatit means, not change the oil. was your oil light on?. im thinking you might have to change the main oil seal which would leak on a hot engine' if it smells like oil, it must be oil

.

Sell the car and buy a bus pass for you are not old enough to have the responsibility of owning a vehicle. You also need English grammar lessons in the worse way. But, OMG, what does an "engine light" have to do with an oil service? Tragic. Just tragic.

See if its leaking from oil pan drain plug. If not check oil pan gasket for leak.Could also be the main seal of the crank. I would check oil pan first though a main seal leak can be expensive. Hope this helps.

i noticed my engine light was on so i thought i just needed a oil change so i did that. i now noticed a strange smell it smelt like oil and disgusting.

i then went to investigate and noticed my car would leak oil wherever i go.

is this bad? what do i do? a smog check is $20.00 I'm very cheap. what do i do?

More than likely the gasket is either missing off the oil filter our it's not tightened properly. This is bad have it check be careful not to run it out of oil.

Oil leaks are easy to find and repair *by the dealer of the car.

Take it back where you got the oil changed and have then look for the oil leak and see whats wrong.

Take it in to an auto parts store, i.e.Autozone and have them scan for codes. then take it to and oil change place... step 1, fix the oil, the other step 1, fix the light.

Just let it keep leaking like my neighbor does.

The first step is to figure out what is leaking from your car in the first place. Whether it is engine oil or transmission fluid or coolant leaks or brake fluid, first know that and call mechanic. Regular maintenance is the best way to prevent these leaks.

This is why they sell oil by the case :~)
