What are your Opinions on fixing a 1977 dodge w200 318 5.2l engine?

340 heads, Mopar "purple stripe" cam, 4 BBL carb. and intake, dual exhaust, new rings and bearings. Cost a couple grand if you source your parts well and DIY.. Have fun with it.

I've had several Dodge D100 Vans with 318 engines in that era, and they all had 2 barrel carbs.

I'm pretty sure if you look again you'll see you have a 2 barrel carb.

The question is whether you want to replace that with a 4 barrel carb, and make corresponding cam and exhaust system changes. For a work truck the 2 barrel may be just fine.

For a vehicle this age, make sure you've got good plugs and wires. If you are getting a weak spark with old wires you may be misjudging what you need to change to fix the problem.

I'd leave it alone, that engine is likely tuned to perform at a low RPM because of the camshaft trying to "help" by improving exhaust flow or carb will not bring nearly as much improvement as it should.

The old adage of cam, intake and headers applies here along with a set of heads off a 360 would

be a much more complete solution.

stay away from it. your throwing money down a well. the vehicle has little value and when your done butchering it, it will be worth a lot less..

I have a 1977 dodge w200 318 5.2l single barrel carb. I am looking to fix up the engine and need opinions on what my main focus should be and the order you think I should fix them. I want to change the headers. I want to change the single barrel carb to a double barrel. Any help would be good. I dont know a whole lot about rebuilding engines and would appreciate your help. The truck is a old military truck 4x4

Thanks in advance if you need any more info just let me know
