How bad is it to drive without new oil for 400 miles?

As long as the oil level is correct, then you won't have any problems putting a few extra miles on the oil change.

It's a recommended service interval. It's not a mandatory interval.

Exceeding the interval by 100 miles won't do any harm to the vehicle ( assuming noting is wrong with it at this time ).

I think only reason that you should change oil more than once couple years are due to fact that people don't check oil level/color etc.

Anyway, if your car is like 10 years old, change it once a year but check often to see very dirty or low level.

It'll be fine.

Hey! How about you actually READ the information contained in your vehicle's owners manual. I know it's much easier to just send a text message on your cell phone and let someone else provide all the answers, but you NEED to know some things... Like WHEN to change your oil and WHY.

It won't kill the car to go an extra 100 or even 500 miles between oil changes, but the longer you allow dirty, contaminated oil to circulate inside your engine, the shorter the life expectancy of your engine will be.

suppost change oil every 3,000 miles (Recomended) but can go 3,000-5,000 miles between oil changes.

Car computer says I had to change my oil 300 miles ago, I'm going into the shop tomorrow, but today I have to drive another 100 miles.

Is this really bad for my car? It's an older model Nissan.
