How often should I get an oil change?

Depends on the vehicle, what oil you use, and how many miles you do.

If you only drive to the shop a couple of time a week and only end up doing 2,000 miles in a year, you should probably change the oil after 12 months, no matter what the mileage.

If you are doing a high mileage, then chances are it's open road driving with a warm engine. Then you can push the miles out further. Then engine oil wont degrade as quickly in a warm and regularly used engine.

Some vehicles have a light that comes up when service is due. This doesn't work in a fixed mileage or time. It's based on HOW the vehicle is used. Seldom used, often driven cold, the service light comes on after 12 months. Driven long distances at highway speed, and you might get ~8,000 miles before it lights up.

The experts or stealers (dealers) suggest in every 4800 km or 3000 miles. But since the last twenty years I've been changing oil of my car in every 10000 km or 6213 miles. Never had an issue. My engine sounds perfect, gas mileage wonderful.

I use fully synthetic oil. But when I wanna be lazy I use fully synthetic oil that is long life gives 30000 km or 18461 miles! Probably in a year. Always change oil filter too.

Treat your car well and it will serve you well. Be a smooth driver. To safe your wallet or ignore the good and be rough. You will need to break the bank to keep it on the road! Cheers

Some manufacturers suggest that oil be changed every 7,500 miles or more, but that’s based on optimum operating conditions. Change the oil as often as every 2,000 to 3,000 miles on older vehicles.

Never go farther than the recommended maximum interval between oil changes. Changing your oil on a regular basis and using a premium synthetic motor oil is the best way to ensure optimal engine performance and durability.

My wife's car is low mileage. but she rarely drives far enough or long enough for the engine to be fully warmed up. In spite of the very low mileage, usually running on a cold engine fouls the oil so I change the oil in her car twice a year.

My Pickup is a different story. I drive over a thousand miles a week. That engine starts up and runs all day or it does not run at all. In spite of high mileage, the operating conditions are almost ideal so again I change the oil only twice a year.

Operating conditions are actually more important than mileage. Twice a year has worked well for me in both high and low mileage vehicles.

I went to my oil change dealer and he told me to not bother getting an oil change because it didn't need changing. He said that since I live in Florida I should only go by the mileage regardless of the elapsed time since my last oil change, i.e. I should go every 3000 miles or 5000 miles or whatever the sticker on my windshield says. Since I don't drive that much that would probably mean an oil change once a year, but Idk, that seems awfully infrequent...

Regular oil, every 3-4k tops. Synthetic oil, 7-8k. A trip of 1/2 hr. or more every week or two and you'll be fine.

Every 5 to 7 thousand KM.

We need the year, make and model of your car. Different brands of cars and trucks have slightly different oil change schedules.
