User tim might have something, but my thoughts are that if it was a differential problem it wouldn't "slip" until the dif self-destructed. Auto tran problem is much more likely and common.
Dodge has used a floating pin assembely in there differentials for years over time this pin comes lose and starts hitting the outside case making a light scraping noise and over time eats threw the case or breaks releasing the diff gears ... causing that problem .... stop driving it now! Replace the diff and save yourself the extra bs of a full trans swap .
