How can I tell if my Mazda 3 2010 needs a radiator flush?

And is it the same as a coolant flush?

If the coolant is really old , has never been changed and your car is not cooling well , chances are it wouldn't hurt to flush your system .

Summer is coming

A coolant flush is the same thing as a radiator flush. You need to change your coolant every 3-4 years and never need to flush. If you're late or if you added a lot of tap water then a flush might be nice, but it doesn't make up for being late and you really shouldn't be late in the first place. Since your car is only 4 years old you don't need to flush it and you should change your coolant. Some places might always flush even if you don't need it or mix up "flush" with "change", which are both fine.

Don't wait until the coolant is rust colored, that means your engine is already damaged with rust. You're just asking to get stranded on the side of the road with an overheat and possibly destroy your engine permanently with such terrible neglect. It's the right time, change it now. Your rubber coolant hoses should also be inspected regularly to replace old brittle hoses before they crack and leak, but it's probably too early for any of them to need changing.

if you open up your radiator cap and see "orange" usually rust, a lot, would signify you need a radiator flush, also smell it , if the fluid inside the radiator smells like fish, you deff need a radiator flush. not hard to do it your self buy plenty of coolant and flush it with your garden hose...or your neighbors...whatever

the coolant in your car is just water, it doesnt fail to cool the engine over time, it just needs to be there as a liquid to carry heat away from the engine.

It does howver contain two types of additives, one of them is the anti freeze, whcih as the name implies, resists freezing! this way, when tis cold, your motor isnt full of ice and cannot spin.

The second one and this is really important is the anti oxidizing agents, as you are well aware, when you put metal in water, it rusts, and your entire motor is made of metal, there are chemicals in the collant that prevent the metal of the engine , your radiator, and your heater core from turning into rust.

You really really want to protect these items from rusting, especially your heater core, your heater core is in your dashboard and its what makes the car blow hot air, the coolant passes through it in the cabin, and if it rusts through and springs a leak, there will be coolant everywhere in your car and it costs thousands to rip appart your dashboard and replace.

change the coolant every couple of years and you will be OK
