Chinese Precision Engineering. Am I racist to not trust until I verify?

It's not racist because you're not basing it on race, but on the origin of manufacture.

China has a reputation of making knock-off or cheap items, so that reputation should not be ignored. Does this mean all Chinese products are cheaply made? No.

But, like lawyers, since there are a lot of slime balls out there you need to be cautious when choosing one if you ever need legal services.

Same with the police.

If the overwhelming attribute of something is country of origin, then it is foolish to ignore it.

Is it racist to think a particular wine is good because it's made in France? No... they have a reputation for it, so it's a reasonable association.

Hi yes actually it is as the chances are the one purchased in the USA is more likely to have come from the chinese source also.

it's not racist

the problem is you're currently too trusting of the quality of products from America

I wouldn't trust the accuracy of any precision instrument without verifying it first, regardless of origin

From a practical stand point you should test any device to be sure it performs as required. This has nothing to do with where the device is made.

So, for example, if you bought a thermometer, then first thing, you put it in your mouth to test it for accuracy? (supposed to be the other way around, thermometer tests body temperature to indicate a fever?). There are other things, slightly technical for a general readership, where first thing I have tested any chinese test instrument.

With instruments from the USA, you would also try them out first thing, but out of fun and pleasure of ownership, not from doubt.

So is that racist?
