The warning lights are not going to cover all of the things that can go wrong with your car, especially with some of the older models. It sounds like you may have a brake fluid leak, so I would suggest checking your brake fluid levels and make sure that the brake lines are okay. Also, do not drive the car on any road if the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor.

You're very lucky. This could have resulted in a bad accident. You'll probably need to replace the brake booster and master cylinder. Also check the brake lines. You may have to bleed the brakes and make sure it's full of fresh fluid.

Brakes broke.

There are rubber brake lines that feed the front brakes. These are known to suddenly break when a few years old.Look for fluid dripping behind a front wheel. If they need to be replaced,it isn't a big deal.

One of the brake lines has rusted through! An 18 year old car needs to have EVERY brake line replaced. You also need to have the old water-logged brake fluid replaced.

Check for the break fluid leak somewhere in the break fluid line. Or fill up the break fluid resevoir till it's full.

But luckily my gf was on residential streets when they went out. So no injuries or damage. There was no indication that there was a problem, no warning lights or anything.

Yes, "READY" is correct, it's most probably a brake line has rusted out!

The master cylinder is worn & needs to be replaced.
