Gas gauage isn't working correctly after replacing fuel pump... any suggestions?

You probably messed up the float when you changed the fuel pump.

I agree, check you connected it right, the ground wire has good contact and the connection is clean and tight.

I would disconnect the wiring harness and check the pins for any damage and corrosion. That area sees a lot of road grime because of being located on the bottom of the car.You might have to remove the fuel sending unit so you can check what's causing the problem. The wires to the float assembly may have come loose during reassembly.I would check the fuel pump filter sock to make sure its not turned in a way that would prevent the float from moving up and down.Since it was working fine before you replaced the pump, its obvious that something was done to it during the pump replacement.

My Ranger did this and it was cause the plug on top of the pump was not fully pushed on.

Is the plug for the gauge in all the way? Does it plug in only one direction or can you reverse it?

I replaced the fuel pump in my 97 Pontiac Firebird... car is running better than before. However my gas gauge isn't working now. When I start the car the gauge drops to empty. When I turn it off it rises. Was hoping this would work however I ran out of gas yesterday so obviously this isn't going to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
