Ask local garages for quotes, stay away from fast fit centres, and you really need to replace the flywheel too if it's a DMF. The chances are high that anew, grippy clutch will tear an old DMF to bits within days of replacement. Half the cost of replacement is labour so you really don't want to be doing the job twice.
Until it is dismantled there is no way to know whether the flywheel is Ok and in all likleyhood it will not be
Use a local independent garage and clutch only will be around £250 to £300
If it needs a new dual mass flywheel, if it even has one of those then it will be over your budget for sure
The price you are talking about is par for the course but shop around for prices or see if you can find a small local garage as Kwik Fit & Halfords are not cheap.
So, today on my way home there was a lot of traffic and I had to brake and stop on a hill.. While giving it revs to get going again the car wouldn't move it was just reving like crazy followed by a nice burning smell.. I turned the engine off immediately and put hazzards on and called the AA who towed me home..
I need to get the clutch replaced, the AA guy said the clutch disc is worn out and Halfords or Kwikfit would be a good bet as they do discounts for AA members..
How much is this likely to cost? I'm hoping it's not going to cost more than say £450 - £500 as it's just the clutch and not the flywheel which has gone.
Any help would be great!
