Do desiel & gas engines use the same motor oil ?

I have noticed that a local farm store charges less for 10-40 diesel than 10-40 for gas

engines. I wonder if it is the same oil with different labels ?

NO. Diesel engine oil has a higher level of phosphorus and zinc which are great anti-wear additives. Gasoline engines have much lower levels of zinc and phosphorus which shortens the life of catalytic converters.

Basically the same, some commercial grades for diesel, like Chevron Delo 500 or Shell Rotella have anti-sooting agents added.

its different. natural gas also uses a different formulation.

edit* they are only the same as in they are oil and share the same viscosity, they could not be further apart when it comes to additives. diesel lubrication qualities are far different than gas. diesels run greater stresses and less clearances and of course way less rpm's

No... dieasel engin use more oil than gas...

Here is a link to UK engine oil
