Why are bicycle mechanics, construction workers, car mechanics finger so rough?

Like chipped nails, hand feels rough like a rock, dead skin etc. why do people in these specific jobs have such hands?

Because it just next to impossible to do a good job with gloves on so almost everyone works with gloves off. Then you tend to get oil based crap and adhesives on your hand which need to be washed off with solvents which also wash off the natural oils in your hand so the skin gets brittle.

Plus handling rough items makes your hands produce more skin cells which makes for big callouses.

It happens because it's work done by hand, rough work, it just tends to happen.

In most cases the people who work in such jobs don't really care about this stuff.

Unless, of course, they take very good care of their hands.

On a side note, have you noticed that the fingertips of guitar players are also hard?

Because the work they do is really hard on their hands, after a while their hands toughen up and can feel very rough

our bodies and all our limbs will adjust to the situation most often encountered. If frequently exposed to the sun the skin will be black. If skin or hands are often in contact with a hard object it will be rough.

Because they use there hands in their work.

Because they do manual (real) WORK, as opposed to pushing a pen, or counting beans.
