What's the story with Armor All and other car protectants? Do they work, or not?

Armor-All did cause some problems on some rubber and vinyl surfaces along with leaving a slippery film. STP's Son of a Gun was the first alternative to A-A that wasn't slippery and could be used safely on all surfaces. I know lots of folks who use Maguars products on the exterior and cream leather cleaner on the interior surfaces.

Most are silicone based which doesn't affect vinyl. But it does attract and hold dust. Mequiars is the only one I know of that doesn't use silicone.

No doubt Armor All was number one car protection product from the 70's to the 90's. But then along came competition, like Maguars, Mothers and others. I think they are all silicone based. They do add shine and do protect. Just seemed like Armor All left a film for dust to collect. If you want a true study of all of them, get a Govmt grant to help you pay for your testing. Report back in two yrs.

Why don't you ask Armor-All? It is clear that the claim is it increases the longevity but who is checking? Probably people in the auto body business would have a better based opinion. Maybe you should do some UV experiments. Maybe you can blackmail Armor-All if you find out something bad.

There has to be a long term study out there if is pulls oils from plastic or protects. I know it works short term, but does it ultimately dry out plastic and vinyl faster?

I know everyone has an opinion, but Im hoping to find a study somewhere.
