What is an RH axle shaft?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
I just took my car to the mechanic, and the form they gave me after I paid said the next thing I should do is replace my RH axle shaft.

The RH axle shaft is the other one, not the LH axle shaft!

RH and LH is Left Hand, and Right Hand!

The axle shaft is the part that runs from the transmission to the wheels. They are what makes the wheels go around.

As to cost, It will depended on your car! My Volvo is rather expensive, and my GEO is cheap!

Ignore Rebecca's answer. That's a drive shaft, and transfer case for AWD!

>>>EDIT PART<<<

$42.79 for the RH axle assembly.

$44.79 for the LH axle assembly.

That is at: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcod...

You can probably get similar prices locally. Local may be cheaper once you add in the shipping charges at Rock Auto.

Cost to install shouldn't be more than $100.00 per side. I charge $85.00 if you bring your own parts.

A half shaft is your axle which goes from the transaxle to the right front wheel. They are probably recommend replacing it because the boot is leaking grease. The axle can range from 150 to 300 dollars, and 75 to 150 installation

That would be the right hand side axle shaft. It could be either the front or rear but it is what transmits the power to the wheel.

As for a guesstimate, how about mentioning which year make, year, and model you're dealing with...

RH would be right-hand. The thing that connects the wheel to the engine. What rebecca said.

Go to the following websites to see what a half-shaft looks like: rockauto.com. partstrain.com and autopartswarehouse.com.
