One that you might not think of...... Friction keeps structures from collapsing. During any type of lateral loading, earthquake or wind, the structure may deflect and oscillate, but it always returns to the datum. This is because of internal friction between the connections of the structure as well as microscopic friction between the molecules that makeup the material of the individual members. This is the way that the structure can dissipate the energy. Without it, the structure would oscillate forever and most likely resonate to the point of collapse.

There is only one advantage for friction, it gives everything that needs to move, like a human or a car, or remain in one place, like something on a shelf, the ability to do so.
