Should I put a high flow air filter in my little go kart engine?

I have a 196cc 6.5 engine (Baja go kart), and was wondering if it would hurt the engine if I did this? It is all stock right now.

Say you're highly optimistic and you think a new filter will increase power by 5% (my guess is that it wouldn't). A gain of 5% more power would net you just 0.325hp additional horsepower. Since the kart engine is governed to run at a maximum RPM and the final gearing is fixed, this additional power will add 0mph to the top speed and 0.3hp would be almost unnoticeable during acceleration.

It won't hurt the engine to use this filter and for $12 you're not really risking much by trying it, but I wouldn't expect any real performace gain from using it unless you're also building up the rest of the engine to be able to make use of any additional air this filter provides over the stock filter.

The original filter is most likely foam, and it doesn't get much better than that. Also, there will be no difference in performance at all, so the whole idea is pointless unless you think it looks cool.

Won't hurt anything, as long as the 'filter' part is at least as good as the original.

Why, did you get hit with a turtle shell? Slip over a banana?

Hi yes you could do it. however it is not going to change it so why bother.
