If you're in the United States, take it to a car parts store like Auto Zone. They have a hand-held computer that can find out what caused the light to come on.
It could mean anything, from an oil change appointment to a clogged air filter or less. I would stop by a mechanic and see what they say. I have had engine lights that stay on for years, and it was because the air filter was sending a message. So don't get too worried, but do have it checked
