Oil light on car?

That is the oil pressure sensor. your oil pressure is probably low because the oil level is too low. You need to get oil in there fast, do not drive with it like that.

Even if you have to put a quart in everyday, do not drive with that light on. It can be very harmful to your motor. Check your parking spot. Is there drips? Park on a clean spot for an hour, or use a piece of cardboard to see if there are drips.

If you can smell fumes, find out if they are coming from the engine bay or the exhaust. Engine bay is a leak, exhaust is a bad ring (most likely).

Fill up your oil.

If the oil level is too low, you run the risk of permanently damaging the engine.

If the oil light goes on, the first and only thing you need to do is pull over immediately and turn off the engine. Do NOT run the engine until you know what the issue is.

BTW, in order to help you decide what oil to use, you need to mention what car you have (make. model, diesel/gas)

oil pressure is low. check that first. if it is below the cross hatched area, that is the most likely cause. if too thin of an oil was used in it, the same could happen. lacking any vehicle info, i can go no further.

if there are no leaks, the oil level is full and no noise from the engine then i expect the oil sending unit needs to be changed .

Have the electrical oil pressure sensor changed by the dealer of your car.

I drive a lot and today I noticed I could smell fumes while driving to work. As I was driving home it wasn't too bad however, I was 1 minute away and the oil light was on and didn't go away. Usually i oil is low, it may flash but it was on and didn't go away.

Lucky I was close to home and I will get it checked out but I just got my car serviced last week and they said everything is fine.

Could it be an oil leak or something more serious? If I fill it up with oil myself am I able to drive it and I don't know what kind of oil to buy. Does it have to be a specific car oil? I will find out more tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has any info.

Thanks
