No problem as long as it is labeled "Gasoline" and you have drained all of the diesel from the can. A few drops of diesel will not affect the gas.
It is legal but not recommended to carry Diesel in a Gasoline can but it is Illegal to fill a Diesel or Kerosene Labeled container with Gasoline.
You should clean it out. Use some brake and parts cleaner in an aerosol can. Then you can fill the can up with gas without worries.
don't worry about " cleaning " it......There wont be enough residue left to make a bit of difference either way................50 years on the farm with both gas & diesel equipment ( just be sure you know what you are putting it what engine )
Put a bit of gasolene and clean it ,then you can filled it up with gasolene,no problem,
If i empty it out can i fill it up with gasoline. Would i have to clean it? How?
