What should I major in. engineering wise?

For me, I love Industrial engineering. Just graduated from University of Michigan with by degree in it and will be working as an automotive consultant. The idea behind IE is optimization and process improvement. Typically it is set in the manufacturing industry, but the applications of IE principles are widespread -- the field is experiencing tons of growth in the healthcare industry, for example. Some of my favorite subjects are: linear programming, simulation, value stream mapping, ergonomics, optimization [via calculus], visual basic programming.

Median starting salary for a college graduate is ~$56,000/year.

Environmental Engineer or mechanical.

Petroleum engineering or process engineering, field work and good pay.

my brother wants to be a chemical engineer.

I'm already a sophomore in civil engineering but I'm having second thoughts about my major. I really like math and problem solving but the pay in civil is mediocre. For my job I would like to work in groups and work in the field, plants, etc.. about twice a week. I am completely bilingual, i go to school in the US, in Spanish and English. A lot of civil firms do work in other countries so I though civil was a good fit b/c of that too. I dont want to necessarily do the exact same routine everyday. Based on these statements, what do you think is a better career for me or should I stick with civil even though the pay isnt the best ?
