How can an Architect get qualified to do the engineers job?

Attend an engineering program and get a degree in it.

I'm not sure what the architecture programs are like in England, but generally speaking, engineers take much more math, science, and discipline-specific course work, while architects usually only get a broad introduction to these things and spend more time focused on aesthetics.

If you wish to qualify as a building services engineer then the best advice would be given by The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers www.cibse.org

I suspect that they would advise you to complete the architectural qualification first but why not ak them. I am sure that they would help.

agree with River Euphrates - years ago the regulations changed every time I came of age to take exams & qualify.

In the end nine years to be a CEng MIStructE, longer than some brain surgeons, not through failing any one year, but they moved the goal posts.

Now, at the other end of life, people come to me to problem solve big marine transport problems and heavy lifts at sea, which I can do.

And yet, I still learn as we push envelopes of analysis and practical gadgets. Often I learn from trying to teach the graduates, many of whom are (bless em) extremely bright. There is hope!

So no, I do not want a trainee artichoke in my firm, not even to make the coffee. All blow waves and corduroys, as Tony Hancock once famously said.....

Take as many Civil/Structural engineering courses as you can.

It is best to get a degree as a Civil/Structural engineer and then get a Masters in Architecture.

First thing is to find out what courses are mandatory for engineering and that you will not have in architecture. With this in hands, begin (if possible) to attend these courses, otherwise you will have attend them after you complete architecture.

We have a running joke in our firm that says that architects would have been engineers if it weren't for the math and science.

I've only just started my first year in studying Architecture, But i want to know how can I get qualified to do the engineers job as well? Can I do it along side or does it take another year of study or what?

I live in uk (england) I don't no if thats different from other places?
