Does cars naturally leak water underneath?

I hit a pothole and my car is leaking underneath

That is normal, car generally has a leaking mouth,. It is to let the water leak in the car. The mouth has a special gasket, water isn't able to come up from the bottom, so do not worry. Suggestion: bask the carpet and floor mats, to prevent mildew

If you have your aircon running in the summer, while you're stopped it may drip some condensation.

every car comes equipped with its own artesian well...... or does it?

That's correct. If your ac is running, water is supposed to drip from the evap core and run out of the drain hole on the firewall.Make sure its not coolant or windshield washer fluid leaking though, which would mean cooling system leaks or reservoir leaks
