Could I possibly paint my own car,by buying car paint from wallmart?

I am serious. I want to go from dull black to white. My hood is white and the rest of the car black

White paint over a black car will never be white. A light grey may be the best you can hope for.

Now let's do a cost analysis. 1 can of appliance white epoxy enamel spray paint = $3.50. It will cover about 9 sq ft. A car is 6ft wide by 12 ft long and averages 3ft high. Total sq ft is about 144 sq ft @ $3.5 a can, you are at about $500. Two coats = $1000. Primer will be another $500. Now you are at about $1,500. Prep materials (tape, paper) add about another $100. You can get a cheap paint done for 1/2 that price.

What make of car is it? If it's an old dunger which is almost past its use-by date, ignore the following.

You would have to strip the black paint off first, and given that it will be on the inside of the doors as well as under the bonnet and trunk, it sounds like more trouble than its worth.

You will also need to use proper auto paint, and apply primer first. It's harder than what you appear to think.

Much easier would be to take care of the affected areas, normally the hood and trunk, respraying them black [after you have properly prepared the surfaces, removing any flaking and sanding with wet and dry, priming, etc]

Thereafter, why not prepare the roof and pillars, and spray with a color that stands out? Something like a burnt copper, or a deep burgundy?

Don't use a light color. It will need to be a darker color to compliment the black, and look cool.

At least that way, you won't have a car that is all black, and you will be able appreciate the change and give yourself some satisfaction, even if you enlist the help of someone who knows what they are doing [which, let's face it, you don't seem to].

You can experiment with black and other color combinations by visiting stores that specialize in auto paint. Some may even have computer monitors where you can do so.

You could get a quart of tremclad and paint the hood. Painting a black car white is just not worth it. Even for a beater, it will look like crap. Buy a spray gun and respray it black, but don't even try white.

You would be better off painting the hood black...the dull black can be restored with several different products on the market, but the main obstacle is dark colors are hard to cover with lighter ones it would take a coat of light primer and two coats of white to get close...so your taking about painting it three times.

My daughter did that once to an old beater we had. It looked like, well... you know.

After awhile we kinda got used to it, ugly as it was. Heck we even gave the car a cute name.

Froggy, it was a MANY toned green.

She kept and drove that car all through school years.

The last I knew, Walmart did not sell automotive paint, other than touch up paint.

Look around for a cheap spray painter out of work.

you could, but to make it look right you have to put in the hard work first to make is look right, remove all the old pain, then put on the primer,if it looks right, then you spray is,but you must take your time.

If you know what you're doing, you could. However since you have to ask, I have to assume you don't.

If you want it to look half way decent, pay a professional

best to leave it to the pros or befriend someone who know a lot about auto body work.

You COULD.

it would look like sh*t, but you COULD do it.
