Why doesn't the compressor kick in when I turn on a/c to my 2000 ford Taurus?

Magnetic clutch is the problem or something related to it. See if you get 12vdc across the magnetic clutch. If you do, you have a bad clutch. If you don't, you need to check the fuse, wiring and anything else that can keep the 12vdc from getting to the connector on the clutch.

Well you do know the compresser will not turn on if its low on ac coolant. Mechanics will trick you and tell you they need to replace the compressor . Because you can't add coolant if compressor is not engaged but you can open the fuse box that's under the hood and find the ac relay and remove it and stick a paper clip in 2 of the slots make a bridge it will force the compressor on and you can add coolant. Also check the ac compressior relay it could be bad may need replaced . Need more details did ac used to work and stop ect.....

No power to compressor clutch, or clutch is faulty.

If both electric cooling fans do not switch on you had better have a Ford Dealer test the air conditioner compressor.
