When should you use overdrive on a truck?

My friend just got a 2000 Ford Ranger and we noticed a button that said O/D. We were wondering what that was and when it is required to be used.

Overdrive should always be turned on, unless you are towing or going up hills and you dont want the truck shifting into the last gear. For example, if it is constantly having to downshift to keep up speed, you may want to force it to use the lower gear until you are in a better area for that gear to maintain

HI, anytime you are going to be going 45 mph or over for a few miles.. it is not recommended to use OD if you are just driving in town..

good luck

tim

always unless towing. on a nice flat road towing 2500 lbs or so, use the od. anything over that or a hill, click off.

Read your owners manual page 113..
