The mechanic has my car?

I would pick up car and call BBB

You got a pretty old car. u need to find a mechanic u can trust. all cars are pretty costly to fix.

What was the problem with the car? What did he fix?

How did they come to the conclusion that u need a new transmission? You can also do little tests urself. When u shift to reverse, does ur car "kick" hard? If there's a kick and a loud noise, then u probably do. Or when ur in drive and ur car shifts from different gears, does it shift smoothly? If its a new transmission u need, that tell me u were not keeping up the the transmission oil changes. A used transmission (not a crappy one that leaks, one that is in good condition) will run u about $1000 then u tag on labor cost which will cost around $800-1000. So ur looking at almost 2000 for a transmission.

Nearly every part under the hood of ur car cost 200-400 dollars to replace. at least 100-200 for the part and 100 for the labor. ur not going to fix much with $100. ur lucky they gave u ur car back with $100.

Car parts are not cheap. if its money ur concern about, do some research about the problem. look at prices for parts. ask different mechanics how long the labor is and how much they charge per hour of labor.

I don't know if this mechanic is ripping u off or not cuz theres really not enough information. Maybe they just arent good at diagnosing everything at one time.

yes , when he told 1600 , you should have just went and got your back from him.

But you kept telling him , yes ,yes ,yes . He felt your weakness and exploited you.

Now he has your car again and will prob act like and be a thief he is and tell you , you can't have it until you pay him.

so NOW ? he discovers you need a news trans ?

You are dealing with a liar and rip off artist. Unfortuanatly , i think about 50 % of mechanics are like this.

They learn how easy it is to rip people off and steal their money , that they just cant

help themselves from doing it.

You need to get away from this guy.

hmm it sounds a bit dodge. get it back

Couple of weeks ago, I had a problem with my car. It's camry 2003. I took it to a local workshop to check it out. Next day i got a call from the mechanic telling me that i have a lot of problems with the car and it will take about $1600 to fix it. I said ok. I called him an hour later to tell him to cancel coz i thought it was a bit expensive and i told him i just want to fix the car to get it going; half the job what he called. He said not to worry and he will give me a discount. and he promised that every thing will be fixed and the car will run great. Till now, i haven t sign any paper of any kind authorization from him. Next, i went to the shop to see the car after the job is done. and i told him i wanna try the car first, he said ok but i need to pay some money first and sign a paper writing by me that i owe the workshop that much money. after the discount he wanted $1400 so i paid $100 and took the car. the car is still not fixed so i took it to him the next day. he called me four days after saying that it needed a new transmission. i told him no to do anything.

what should I do? i think he's really ripping me off. First with that $1400 job that brought a probelm to the car that it didnt exist ? And even the $1400 job, im not even sure he put a new parts? or even the new parts costs that much?

Im really upset and i dont know what to do, I just want my car back from him at this moment.
