Removing the Catalytic Converter in my car?

There would be a slight difference in sound if you remove the guts of the clogged catalytic converter as you already know the car would flunk an emissions test.

If the converter was plugged up the engine is burning oil and clogging it up. Removing the converter does not fix the engine, which is really the main problem. You will get a ticket for noise as converters do muffle some sound before going to the muffler. Some newer cars have oxygen sensors before and after the converter which can effect engine performance to an engine that is already screwed up.

Circle Track Magazine did an engine dynomometer test on a Chevrolet CT525 horsepower circle track engine with and without a catalytic converter. The stock TC525 LOST (5) five horsepower WITH a converter. News Flash #2. A brand new direct fit Walker Converter is very inexpensive and does NOT cut decibels of sound!

T is a non-mechanic.

If the converter is actually plugged up you have a problem with the motor running too rich. Of course it will run better. That's like the old trick of ramming a potato up an exhaust pipe to kill the motor. I'd recommend putting a Walker brand after market converter on. You won't see any huge power gains and it's the muffler that controls the sound of the exhaust.

Removing or disabling a catalytic converter on any registered car in the US is a federal offense, and it is a violation of Y!A terms of service to tell you it is okay. If you ruin the converter you put on it will change the sound but may lower the performance, depending on the vehicle you have. It will not increase the performance.

louder, more horse power due to less restrictions, rotten egg smell out of your exhaust. you will get pulled over more due to the rotten egg smell and louder exhaust and you might get a ticket if you are going up a hill and past a cop.

Bad idea

It would make it louder, give it more power, and increase fuel mileage.

And it will turn on your check engine light

Recently replaced the cat in my car, the old ones were "clogged up." So my question is, if i just drill out holes or remove the actual guts to the converter what will that do for my car? I understand it will not pass emissions, but as far as performance, and sound. Will there be a noticeable difference?
