Put my car in 2nd instead of 4th and now a rattling noise from left had side of engine?

You may have floated the engine valves on a downshift, RPM's went so high that the valve springs couldn't keep up . If this is an interference engine, you likely did some valve train damage ie bent valve stems.

This is a FWD vehicle

Left side = transmission

Unfortunately transmission repairs start at $1500 USD and may go as high as $4000.

Hi ouch that has to hurt the pocket very badly. an engine can be wrecked by doing such a thing.

I guess you've broken it big time.

I'm not kidding here - sell ASAP! Take at least half a day to clean and polish your ride till it shines like the hair of a used car salesman. When and if a prospective buyer asks about the noise just use a line out of that salesman's book. "Oh that's nothing, they all sound like that." It's the great American way. Your government lies to you, they lie to you on TV, EVERY realtor lies, it's OK just do it. Do it today!

Put my car in 2nd instead of 4th at high rpm and instantly a rattling noise appeared i pulled over asap and opened the bonnet the noise comes and goes seem to still have the power not that i have put my foot down to find out what could the problem be could it have knock the timing out its a corsa vxr any help would be appreciated going to take it to a garage tomorrow but wanted to see what you guys and girls had to say ??? Thanks
