If you run the gas almost out of the tank and have a plugged gas filter, that will ruin the fuel pump. You let the fuel tank get low and the crud on the bottom of the tank gets into the gas filter and overworks the pump and it burns up. Also, the gas keeps the pump running cool, so you always want at least a half tank of gas. Change the gas filter if you haven't changed it, then hook up a fuel gauge. Almost every 2003 Cavalier out there has a new fuel pump because of running the tank low and having a plugged up gas filter.

"Chevy" ; Sounds like it could be electrical; Loose,or corroded batt. cable/s, could be the coil pack (very common in GMs ) ! May just need to let the "puter" Re-boot !
#1. Change the fuel filter.
#2. Ask a Chevrolet Dealership to test the fuel pressure in the fuel rail pressure fitting. This is a very inexpensive test BUT the fuel filter must be clean to get an accurate fuel pressure reading. Plugged fuel filters are the #1 cause of electric fuel pump failures.
#3. Remove and clean the idle air control valve in the front of the throttle valve opening.
could be the transmission. could be thats its a chevy failalier.
If your battery lit up on your dash when it lost acceleration....could be the alternator.
