If I'm not happy with the charges for auto repair can I abandon the car?

Logically the total cost is more than the car itself. Is taking the plates and registration common place when no resolution is in sight?

Right now, it belongs to them. You cannot touch it.. Pay the bill. You don't get the plates nor the registration. The mechanic can put a lien on your house or business to get his money. Only then is the vehicle yours. BS on your logic. Resolution is you PAY for it. Then you take your car and shove it.

. It is your problem...not his to figure out afterwards.

.This is why U ask for an estimate first(before he does any work)

. Then you decide to fix it or not. That estimate is written down

so U know ahead of time and can decide how to pay or make

payments.(if he is in agreement with that-and many are)

. You are free to abandon the car when you don't owe anybody any money....even then why would you when auto salvage will pay you $400. cash? meaning if the car runs, it is worth double that to someone.

if you owe money u might be able to offer the car as payment. tell him you don't have the money to pay it. always get it in writing a contract.. with a eye witness also... make a witness sign it too... not a buddy of his... a innocent bystander lol. what usualy happens is when u don't pay the fee over long time period he will try sewing u for the money and basicly he will get the car anyway.... keep in mind they can add more fee's on if you don't pick up in a time frame... holding the vehicle.. housing it... added on interest fee's, besides what happened???? you should got a quote.. they cant just fix things and charge u... they gotta tell u first so u have option to decline if u cant afford it or don't want to... they cant just replace 4000 worth of junk and then say u gotta pay it all back. It don't work that way. plus id request receipts and proof of any new part they installed. many garage mechanics like to jip people and lie about replacing parts.. they lie about what was actualy wrong with the car or what all they do to it.

are most willing to take the car? perhaps for parts and scrap. everything was verbal btw

The vehicle is yours to do what you want. But if you owe any money you are still on the hook to pay it off. You can not walk away from your financial obligations.

what happened to the estimate? btw yes your mechanic can file a lien and own it, but heck save em a buck, sign the title
