How to get a oil filter off if my oil filter wrench won't get it lose?

Do you have anything like a pipe wrench or pliers that will fit around the filter? That works for me, just grip the filter and spin.

Another option is getting sand paper and using that to get grip on the filter and try to twist it off.

Don't pound a screwdriver through it unless you want oil running everywhere.

Some oil filters are put on too tightly and this happens. Hope my suggestions help

Roberts advice will only get you into more trouble. NEVER drive a screwdriver through it unless you want to unwind the filter like a sardine can. Screwdrivers just destroy the can even more. Wrap coarse sandpaper inside your strap wrench and tighten the wrench so the sandpaper digs into the can.

Also, never substitute Robert's opinion on which oil to use in place of what it says in your owner's manual.

There is a couple different style of wrenches. Which ever type you have, go to the auto parts store and get the other style, try again.

STARA P WRENCH or drive a screwdriver THROUGH THE FILTER and start TWISTING! OR put it back together and go to an OIL CHANGE PIT where THEY can deal with it! THey do this EVERY SINGLE DAY! Use a FRAM or MOBIL ONE SYNTHETIC FILTER! The AC Delco ones are just PAPER inside! YUCK! Use MOBIL ONE 0W-30 oil MORE POWER< more ECONOMY< and less emissions! ALso your CONVERTER is protected longer as well! BYE NOW

It sounds like you should not be attempting to change your own oil. However, if you insist on forcing your way through your own incompetence, and you can't or won't use a proper oil filter wrench - simply pound a screwdriver through the filter to get some leverage and unscrew it.

The car is a 05 malibu maxx lt and one of oil filter wrenches doesn't fit. I need to replace it ASAP bc it's all dented up and idk why and I already drained th oil and don't want to take it somewhere
