For clever mechanics who understand the brakes, can this be really the caliper? how you can explain the below?

That is one of the problems with disk brakes. There are no springs or anything to make them release. It is quite common for them to get dirty or corroded and stick "on". Usually they just need cleaned up. It would be possible for the piston to be stuck in the caliper, in which case the caliper would need to be replaced. Or the caliper could be leaking brake fluid which would make it smell and require that the caliper be replaced.

Fairly common for rear calipers to stick. But some brands are more susceptible than others. You didn't think it was important to list year, make, model, so we're shooting in the dark.

Why would you take your car to a mechanic, get a diagnosis, and then come here and ask if he's right. Either you trust him or you don't. If you don't find another mechanic.

A lot of cars have the parking brake as a "tophat"

Area of the disk brake.

These seem pretty prone to failing, especially if the

Parking brake is dragging, or not completely OFF and

You back up.

Not the end of the world, but you have to take off wheel & rotor...reassemble parking brake guts and slide it all back together again.

The smell was that of burning brake pads, It is very possible that the caliper got stuck as a result of this, I'm surprised that the warranty covered it due to leaving the emergency brake on.

Your mechanic is correct. Do what he says. Don't drive the car with a bad caliper.

The E-brake is connected to the rear- not the front. Yes this happens. It is more common than you would think. Trust your car guy. Don't drive it if it is like that or you will be replacing more components than just that.

- One day I was waiting for someone and missing around with my emergency brakes. in the same day I noticed a rubber burning smell coming from the left rear wheel (no the handbrakes was released, i thought the same)

- another day I started to see white smokes and the smell was really bad and i could smell it from the cabin while driving that was in the morning, in the evening, there was minimal smell, although same driving conditions, same whether "actually hotter in the evening"..etc

- I went to a mechanic he lifted up the car and tried to rotate the left wheel it was hard to be rotated with hands compared to the other wheel, he diagnosed that as a caliper is not releasing and needed to be changed. he continue doing tests, he asked me to help by pushing the brakes and releasing it few times, while he is doing something in the wheel. I also noticed him opened a very small reservoir that is located near the pads and the caliper (may be oiling something, i was not sure) after that he asked me to use the handbrake and release it some few times.

he confirmed it is the caliper and asked me to come back after a couple of days where the part is delivered, since the car has a warranty.

- I drove my car in this day much more extensively than any other day before. I was expecting a bad smelling day, it was hot day, crowded day, highways and city driving.. to my surprise, no smell "very very very unnoticeable, i doubt it is even there, may be this is the normal smell of the car".
