Each time I've gotten oil changes, I've use conventional oil. Would it be OK to use synthetic oil for the next o

So, I will be getting another oil change in about 5000km. With that being said, would it be OK to use synthetic oil? Or would this adversely interact with the conventional oil?

Absolutely! Full Synthetic oil remains thinner at low temperatures which allows the oil pump to force more lubricant to frictional surfaces faster than conventional oil. Over 80% of all engine wear occurs during cold starts. EP (extreme pressure) qualities are better than conventional oil. High temperature volitility happens at a higher temperature than conventional oil. Detergent properties are better.

Ben There, Done That has told you a tall tail. Semi-Synthetics are NOT blended 50/50 (full synthetic & conventional). Read the label on any semi-synthetic.

Fully synthetic oil does everything better than standard mineral oil. In spite of what the other guy said oil does indeed lose it's viscosity as it breaks down over time. Fully synthetic resists this and is also resistant to burning etc. See link. It will mix with any other car oil.

You can switch between the to with no problems at all. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. All the stuff About causing leaks and issues from switching are miths. Mineral oil and synthetic oils are compatable, synthetics have more cleaning abilities that sometimes when used in a negleted old motor can clean all the sludge away from seals and could FIND a leak in an already wearing seal.

It'll be ok. (Don't you know there are blended oils on the market?)

It will also be a waste of money. Consumer reports magazine did extensive tests of all types and brands of oils and they came to the conclusion that synthetics don't reduce wear over regular oil.

You don't change oil because it's worn out. You Change it because of contamination, and synthetic oil gets contaminated just as fast as any other oil.

You can safely switch between regular and synthetic engine oil at any time. Engine age or mileage does not matter.
