Could American cars catch up to the performance level of European cars?

I was just curious. With all the advancements in technology, could say a Corvette match the performance level of a Lamborghini in the foreseeable future?

The Chevy Corvette will never be designed at the quality levels of these super European cars. As a Chevrolet it is a car with limited production, sold only by special order. The factory in Bowling Green, KY only produces about 70 cars per day. All to a specific customer. There are only three trim levels. But is is plastic and not refined as to interior or materials. There is no market for a $300,000 Chevy Corvette. The frame and suspension are not sophisticated at all. It is an all engine car for a drag race not a circuit one. Not designed for that. However, modified and with performance parts, the Corvette has been successful to a degree in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has a record on the Nurbering (not spelled correctly) circuit in Germany. You can find it in YouTube.

Sure lets compare cars in the same price range, as of February 2014 the fastest car in the world is the American 1,244 HP Hennessey Venom GT at almost half the price of the Veyron SS. Deigned in Texas, powered by Chevy, assembled by some cool blokes in the UK.

The Corvette is 1/3 the price of a lot of supercars and can compete with them. I think supercars are cool and all but for the price I could build a 14 year old Chevy that will kill a Lambo in a 1/4 mile or even long run for 20k. Not to Mention supercar aren't very practical off the tract and are totaled if bumped hard.

But while were talking about supercars the Hennessey Venom is the worlds fastest and is American.

Some foreign companies are tearing the Vette apart trying to find out how it is That cheep

In a lot of ways, american cars have matched their European rivals. But people don't like to buy american. The labor makes the cars too expensive for what you get.

I thought they were trying to catch up with us. Our Big Three car companies know that a $200,000 car is not going to sell here. So, you cut corners, get more practical, like around 50-$60,000. Then you sell a level two performance car.
