Can i just remove the cabin air filter and quit worrying about it? none of my cars before this one even had a cabin air

If all else, remove, vacuum or blow compressed air through, re- install. Should not leave it out. All kinds of crap will come through.

Not if your car/truck has air conditioning. The filter is there to protect the A/C evaporator.

Volvo was an early adopter of the then-new R134a refrigerant. It was required of all systems in 1994 but Volvo made it standard in the 1993 850. Within a year customers were complaining about evaporator leaks (under warranty at that point), and within another year other manufacturers were experiencing the same problem - pinholes in the evaporators. It was quickly pinned (he he) down: pollen was getting stuck in the normal moisture on the evaporators and was turning into a corrosive mud that attacked the new alloys required by R-134a. The cabin filters were the fix.

It is quite possible your engine would last longer without oil changes than your A/C would without the cabin filter.

I guess you could but your car will smell better if you change it out.

otr you could just not worry about it. and leave the old one in.

i would not do that. i really wish my old truck had one

The filter is cheap, only $15.00 total for my Impala. Change it, keep the smelly crap out! Of course, you don't HAVE to!
