What does a engineer do for a job and how many years of college does it take?

Engineer is a very broad term that covers a wide spectrum of jobs that involve anything from computers to explosives. An engineer is usually assigned the job of working out the mechanical aspects of things, whether that be in a building or an automobile. So by saying you want to be an engineer is very vague in a sense. But in general engineers get their bachelors degree within 4 years and then you are faced with the option of furthering your education through masters and such that help you not only narrow your specialization within the field of engineering but they also help you master your sector. Such degrees can range from 2 years to 5 years maximum.

Some engineering jobs:

- electrical engineer

- environmental engineer

- aerospace engineering

- chemical engineer

- nuclear engineering

- marine engineer

and the list goes on and on

Hope this helps

An engineer is a professional practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical problems. Engineers design materials, structures, and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost.Engineers develop new technological solutions. In short, engineers are versatile minds who create link between science, technology, and society

There are many kinds of engineers doing more jobs than I could possibly think of. Civil engineers design or analyze large construction projects such as bridges, tunnels, roads and dams. They have to know about geology, structural design and dealing with governmental authorities. Environmental engineers work on a multitude of projects, again usually involving government authorities. Structural engineers specialize on design of buildings, bridges, etc. and also have to deal with architects, civil engineers, governments, and so on. Nuclear engineers do nuclear power plants. Marine architects design boats. Aeronautical and aerospace engineers design aircraft and spacecraft. Automotive engineers design vehicles. Electronic engineers design computers and all related devices. Electrical engineers design power generation systems, power distribution systems, electrical wiring systems and everything else that use electricity that aren't electronic. Hydraulic engineers deal with liquid flow (water, oil, etc.). Chemical engineers deal with any devices involving chemical reactions. Mining engineers deal with extracting and processing minerals, and petroleum engineers do the same with oil and gas. Mechanical engineers (like me) design machinery from microscopic size to giant rockets, heating and cooling systems, control systems, and a lot more. As such, mechanical engineers have to know how to do structural, machine, electrical and more. There are more fields, too many to mention.

Start with 4 years of college. Keep working on further education as long as you are able.

Engineers get to toot the big horn and drive the big shiny, tippy ,and often found in a ditch or river, train. You's might goes to schools for the rests of ur live and no ever B uh engeeneer.
