Confused in selection between two engineering fields which one should I chose Mechanical or Civil engineering?

Please choose the most convenient according to your conscience

I totally support the first two answers. Do what you feel is right. It totally depends on your likings.

if you like more creative work then you can opt for civil engineering. Civil engineering is one of the most broad specialties within the engineering field, so it is often broken down into several sub-specialties. These include the following:

Transportation Engineering

Water Resources Engineering

Structural Engineering

Urban Engineering

Geotechnical Engineering

Materials Engineering

Construction Engineering

Environmental Engineering

Coastal Engineering

Earthquake Engineering

and if your interested in some core technical part then Mechanical Engineering is the only place where you can get yourself attached.

1. Automobile and auto part manufacturers

2. Aerospace industry

3. Various Government sector undertakings

4. Aviation companies

5. Steel plants

6. Thermal plants and gas turbine manufacturers

7. Air conditioning and refrigeration industry

8. Shipping industry

9. Engineering consultancies

10. Armed forces

It depends on what you like to do. Mechanical Engineers design and build almost anything. Civil Engineers for the most part design and build buildings and bridges and highways and other things found in or around a city.

As for which job pays more, depending on what you do in each field, the salaries range greatly, so there's no definite answer. My advice would be to pick the career or job you enjoy rather than the one that pays the most. Money can't buy happiness and you'll be financially stable no matter what job you get.

I agree with Matt on choosing which you prefer to do - money is less important than job satisfaction (provided you have enough!!) Civil engineers tend to be involved in larger projects & often have mech eng working for them to handle the details. Civil in their early days often have a lot of stress analysis to do as part of their learning curve but as they advance both types of engineer become less "hands on" & more administration

Go with your heart - if you're good both types of engineering will lead to a satisfying career.

My plan is to complete my graduation and wait for 2-3 years before I do Masters. Then later on (maybe after 10 years) I want to join management of the company by taking some management courses. I do not want a job which requires me to exert physically all the time but i can exert occasionally.Which one of these fields has better scope and more interesting jobs ? Which of these fields have more highly paid jobs?
