"...1 cm, 3 cm, 7 cm, 11 cm and 13 cm."

These are five.

the real question is :A bag contains six sticks of the following lengths: 1 cm,3 cm,5 cm,7 cm,11 cm and 13 cm. How many different triangles can be made using any three of these sticks?

i) Only 5 dimensions are given. What about the dimension of the 6th stick?

ii) So counting only for 5 sticks, the number of selection of 3 from it = C(5,3) = 10

iii) The suitable selection of these to form a triangle is only (3, 11, 13) & (7, 11, 13)

Other selection can not be able to form triangle; since sum of any two of them will not be greater than the third.

Thus the probability of such selection = 2/10 = 1/5

As such there is no suitable choices.

o 11/20

* 1

o 1/4

o2/5

necessary condition for a triangle: sum of the two sides should be larger than the greatest side.

so if you take out 1,3,7 tringle is nt going to be formed.

similarly (1,3,11) ,,,,(3,7,11) etc.....

then only two cases are left i.e. (3,11,13) and (7,11,13)

so probabiltiy will be 2/5

A bag contains six sticks of the following lengths 1 cm, 3 cm, 7 cm, 11 cm and 13 cm. three sticks are drawn at random from the bag. What is the probability that we can form a triangle with those sticks?
